Drake’s Fragrance Debut: Better World Fragrance House “Summer Mink” Review

How is BWFH’s launch EDP? Here’s my quick take.

Earlier this year, Drake’s Better World Fragrance House launched its first-ever eau de parfum, Summer Mink. It is a deliberate, single-SKU debut composed by Michael Carby of Givaudan, signaling a confident, focused start for the brand’s fragrance ambitions, on the heels of successful candle and rollerball oils.

The Concept Behind Summer Mink

Summer Mink is built around contrast: warm and cold, light and dark, seasonal and sensual. As the brand explains, it is about “wearing mink in summer”, a statement on breaking conventions of when certain textures or moods belong. The composition fuses creamy, musky warmth with sparkling freshness in equal measure.

Carby, a senior perfumer at Givaudan, describes the structure as a yin-yang balance of cold spices and bright citruses over a plush base. It fits comfortably into Drake’s world of understated luxury and universal appeal. The fragrance feels modern, confident, and quietly nostalgic.

Fragrance Family: Amber Woody
Top notes: Italian citrus, clary sage, petitgrain
Heart: Jasmine sambac, rose oil, spices
Base: Vetiver, Ambrofix, musk, patchouli

The opening is crisp and citrusy, with a green lift from clary sage. It quickly warms into a floral-spiced heart, anchored by a musky-woody base that leaves a creamy trail. To my nose, that base lands slightly vanillic. The result is textured and deliberate rather than a typical celebrity “fresh” scent.

What stood out immediately was its restraint. This feels well-considered, not rushed. Many new fragrance houses release multiple scents at once to see what lands. Here, Drake’s team chose focus over volume.

The scent feels rousing and universal, built around jasmine, musk, vetiver, and Ambrofix. It strikes a clean balance between brightness and body. It feels familiar but still distinct, with a soft sweetness that adds warmth. My only minor complaint is the glossy bottle, which shows fingerprints easily.

Summer Mink Performance & Composition

What stood out immediately was its restraint. This feels well-considered, not rushed. Many new fragrance houses release multiple scents at once to see what lands. Here, Drake’s team chose focus over volume.

I addressed performance and projection. For me, Summer Mink feels safe, but in a smart way. If you were a celebrity launching your first EDP, this is the type of scent you would want to lead with.

Again, it leans sweet and vanillic, likely from the coumarin listed in the formula, but more patchouli emerges after a day or two of wear. Projection is strong at first and fades after two to three hours. Longevity is moderate, not weak, and consistent with the scent’s cozy tone.

The fragrance wears slightly feminine but remains unisex. If I had to assign a season, I would call it fall into winter, though the whole point of Summer Mink is that contrast. It is meant to be worn when it feels unexpected. So, if it suits you in summer, go for it. There are no actual rules, you know.

This is not a groundbreaking release, but it is deliberate and high-quality. The bottle design deserves special mention: round like a Magic 8-Ball, black and blue in shifting light, and anchored by a sculptural base. It could easily win a design award even if it does not win a fragrance one.

For Drake fans, it is an easy blind buy.

For everyone else, I suggest sampling it at Ulta. It is not polarizing or experimental. It is simply a confident, thoughtful debut and a smart platform for whatever Better World Fragrance House builds next.
