When in Istanbul, a stop at Nishane’s flagship boutique in Nişantaşı should be near the top of your itinerary. The store embodies everything that makes the Turkish perfume house so distinctive: modern artistry rooted in heritage, bold materials, and world-class craftsmanship.
Nishane is Istanbul’s proud imprint on the global fragrance map. Founded in 2012 by Mert Güzel and Murat Katran, the brand channels the city’s complex character: cosmopolitan, layered, and rooted in ancient scent traditions. The name “Nishane” means “mark” or “symbol” in Turkish, hinting at what the founders always intended: each fragrance should leave a distinct, lasting impression.
What also makes Nishane stand out is collaboration: they work with accomplished perfumers from across the world—including Julién Rasquinet, Carlos Benaïm, Cécile Zarokian, Jorge Lee, Dominique Ropion, Miguel Matos, and Sylvain Cara, to list a small handful. The narratives behind their collections are every bit as wondrous as the scents themselves: Shadow Play, Rumi, and No Boundaries reflect stories, cities, and philosophies through scent.
You’ll feel that firsthand at Nishane’s flagship boutique in the Nişantaşı neighborhood, too.

The Best Nishane Fragrances (in My Humble Opinion)
Perfumer: Dominique Ropion
Scent Profile: Spicy Woody Amber
Key Notes: Cardamom, cypress, coriander / fir balsam, cedarwood, patchouli / labdanum, musk, moss
Papilefiko is earthy and hypnotic, built around fir balsam and moss that evoke a quiet forest floor. Cardamom and coriander lend brightness up top before the scent deepens into a warm, resinous base. It’s understated but compelling, an introspective scent that still feels sensual on skin.

Perfumer: Julien Rasquinet
Scent Profile: Crisp Chypre
Key Notes: Pineapple, bergamot, pink pepper / lime, jasmine, orange blossom / vetiver, patchouli, cedar
A fresh interpretation of Nishane’s signature bestseller, Hacivat X trades the smoky density of the original for something cleaner and more effervescent. Juicy pineapple and pink pepper sparkle over jasmine and cedar, settling into a crisp, mossy drydown. It’s confident but easygoing—the one I wear most often of the 5 Nishanes I own

Perfumer: Jorge Lee
Scent Profile: Woody Chypre
Key Notes: Pineapple, grapefruit, bergamot / patchouli, cedarwood, jasmine / oakmoss, woody notes, amber
The scent that put Nishane on the global map. Hacivat blends radiant citrus and crisp woods into something refined and assertive. It balances sweetness with structure, freshness with longevity, and polish with personality. Still the house’s defining scent, it represents the confidence and craftsmanship that define modern Istanbul.
Perfumer: Cécile Zarokian
Scent Profile: Spicy Vanilla Amber
Key Notes: Bergamot, green notes, blue ginger, pink pepper / cardamom, blackcurrant, Turkish rose / vanilla, benzoin, sandalwood, patchouli
A velvety blend of spice, wood, and vanilla, Ani manages to feel both intimate and expansive. Its ginger and cardamom open bright before giving way to a creamy, resinous base that lingers for hours. It’s romantic, grounded, and instantly recognizable, and easily one of the most beautifully balanced gourmands in niche perfumery.
Scent Profile: Floral Amber
Key Notes: Tuberose, gardenia, jasmine / peach, orris, vanilla / sandalwood, vetiver, musk
Elegant, romantic, and addictive, A Thousand Silent Ways captures the emotional intensity of a modern floral without ever feeling dated. Its blend of white flowers and vanilla hums with quiet sophistication, balancing sweetness with restraint.
Perfumer: Jorge Lee
Scent Profile: Citrus Tea Musk
Key Notes: Bergamot, orange, mandarin, litsea cubeba / oolong tea, nutmeg / musk, fig
Bright and invigorating, Wulong Cha opens with sparkling citrus before gliding into a soft, aromatic tea accord. Fig and musk round it out with a gentle creaminess that softens the edges. It’s one of Nishane’s most universally appealing scents, given its fresh and green qualities.
