And how does this rotary shaver stack up against its predecessor, the S9000?

Philips Norelco has unveiled its most advanced rotary shaver yet: the i9000 Prestige Ultra, positioned as the evolution of its already-celebrated S9000 Prestige. With a redesigned triple-blade system, enhanced contouring, and an adaptive pressure sensor, the i9000 aims to deliver one of the closest electric shaves on the market, cutting hair as low as 0.08 millimeters beneath the skin’s surface.
Despite looking strikingly similar to the S9000 Prestige, the i9000 refines nearly every element of the shaving experience. Its heads glide more smoothly, its ergonomics feel more deliberate, and its smart-sensor feedback system actively tracks pressure for real-time adjustments.
The result is a shaver that feels both luxurious and highly efficient. The clip breaks down those differences, shows the i9000 in action, and offers perspective on whether it’s worth upgrading from Philips Norelco’s already excellent predecessors.

The previous model from Philips Norelco, the S9000 Prestige,is no slouch either. Here are the ways that the i9000 Prestige Ultra compares to that prior device. (The stats will suggest that i9000 Prestige Ultra is superior, but don’t mistake that for the fact that the other one is a better value because it is the older model.)
- New model has closer shave (-0.08 vs. 0mm)
- New model has more flexible heads (better precision in small areas)
- New model has 10% more cutting actions per minute (165K vs 150K)
- New model has more shave modes (5 vs. 3); now AI-powered with pressure indicator
My Verdict: Is the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra Worth It?
Regarding the i9000, yes, I do believe the claims (first hand, from my shaving experience with the device) that this is the closest shave yet from a rotary shaver. Arguably even as close as any foil shaver, making it the first electric razor in its category to have that distinction.
That said, if what you need is a shave that mimics a bare-faced razor shave, then this is your best bet from a rotary shaver. So, if you’re willing to pay the top dollar for that experience, go for it. If you simply want a great shave (and don’t mind some 5-o’clock shadow by day’s end), then the S9000 Prestige is still a terrific device with an extremely close shave, as is the Philips Norelco 7200 Shaver for far less.
Either way, I’d encourage you to consider foil options too. Perhaps take a look at my explainer video on foil vs. rotary, and see which device is best suited to your needs and budget.
