The Best Beard Trimmers selection

What should you look for in the best beard trimmer? Above all, you should get good value for your spend, and that’s why I wanted to build out a roster of the best mens beard trimmers across various budgets. There are some great value picks in the bunch, but I also think my entire list will deliver on value, even if you go with the upgraded options.

But in terms of what you should get from the device itself, in order to measure the beard trimmer’s value, it is above all precision. If it can’t draw clean lines or handle detail work, nothing else really matters. From there, it’s about customization, meaning the ability to hit multiple lengths and styles without fighting the device, whether that’s through guards, heads, or fine adjustments.

You also want something that feels built to last, so think solid materials, not flimsy plastic guard heads, since durability and reinforced trimmer attachments are what separates a “good for now” tool from one you’ll still be using years later.

Battery endurance matters more than people think, too; a trimmer should hold a charge long enough that you’re not constantly plugging it in mid-routine. And finally, it needs real power—enough motor strength to move through dense growth without tugging or slowing down.

Put all that together, and the best trimmers (at any price point) are the ones that feel effortless to use and consistently deliver the same clean result every time.

Have a look at this list of the best beard trimmers for men, based on my 14 years of testing them as a men’s grooming editor for outlets like GQ, Men’s Journal, Esquire, Forbes Vetted, Men’s Health, Robb Report, and more. I made this beard trimmer review roundup as a video first, for our YouTube channel, which you can also watch if you prefer that option.

Best Overall Beard Trimmer: Braun Series 9 All-in-One

BUY BRAUN SERIES 9 ALL-IN-ONE TRIMMER

The Series 9 is, without question, the top grooming device used in our household; there are two of us trimming our beards here, and it’s the top of the dopp kit, because it makes things so fast and so easy, for each of us individually.

This is what you get when you want to level up from a very good all-in-one to something that feels genuinely premium in daily use. Yes, it has the muscle, the runtime, and the extra heads for clipping, detailing, and shaving, but what really makes it feel like an upgrade is the convenience of the trimming system itself.

Testing the Braun Series 9 All in One Trimmer.
Testing the Braun Series 9 All in One Trimmer.

The Series 9’s banner feature is, without a doubt, that dial on its body that makes it so easy to navigate between half-millimeter increments. Is a huge quality-of-life improvement, because it lets you move through dozens of incremental lengths without constantly changing attachments.  (Those lengths, between the two guard attachments, allow for 41 different lengths, 0 on the bare guard, then 0.5-20mm with the attachments).

Add in the strong motor, the excellent line-making ability, and the detail tools for cleanup work, and it becomes the device for someone who knows they are going to use this thing constantly and wants the experience to feel smoother every single time.

I used to tout the Philips Norelco Multigroom 9000 as the best beard trimmer for men, and this Braun was my “best upgrade” pick. But now, the latest 9000 models are as expensive as the Braun Series 9, not to mention, Philips constantly tweaks its devices and makes it difficult to keep track of which benefits come with which purchase. Meanwhile, the Braun stays consistent, just like the results you’ll get from using it.

(I still love the Multigroom 9000 from Philips Norelco, as you’ll see in my next pick, but I also think it’s the best multitasker overall, for the guy who wants more customization and head-to-toe detail… while the Braun is itself the single best beard trimmer.)

Best Beard Trimmer for Most Guys: Philips Norelco Multigroom 9000

BUY PHILIPS NORELCO MULTIGROOM 9000: 28-in-1 // 25-in-1// 23-in-1

As I mentioned above in the Braun section, Philips Norelco’s Multigroom 9000 was my longtime top-dog pick, and it still stands atop my list of recommendations, even if it isn’t the single device I myself tend to reach for most often. Back when we launched Blue Print in early 2025, I even hailed it as my favorite overall because it can reach so many users. (Hey, how selfless am I, putting the group’s needs ahead of my own?) it also received one of our inaugural Blue Ribbon awards, which we give to the best grooming products of all time, since it is such a dang good multitasking device.

Testing the Philips Norelco Multigroom 9000.
Testing the Philips Norelco Multigroom 9000.

I do believe that the widest number of people will appreciate the Multigroom seris (especially if you include the 7000 series, which is barely a stepdown, just offering slightly less battery life and attachment options).

The Multigroom does just about everything and does it reliably. It is the rare all-in-one that actually earns that label: beard trimmer, detailer, shaver, hair clipper, nose hair trimmer, the whole thing. (And yes, it is a fantastic hair clipper, believe it or not; those reinforced guards do not budge on buzzcuts, and it has the muscle you need from a clipper to mow through dense patches of hair without pulling or stalling.)

What makes it especially compelling is the degree of customization you get form those many attachments, plus the fact that the 9000 and even the 7000 still give you that stronger steel-core build that helps justify the long-term investment. It is one of those devices that feels almost impossible to outgrow, whether someone is just keeping a short beard tidy or wants a single tool that can cover most of their grooming routine.

Philips Norelco Multigroom 9000 Quick Stats:

  • Run Time: 6 hours (we got 17 hours on first charge…)
  • Charge Time: 3 hours
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • Cutting Lengths: 0.2–20 mm (multiple guards + adjustable comb)
  • Attachments: 23-28 pieces (hair clipper, T-blade, body, detail, foil shaver, nose/ear, etc…)
  • Each 9000 model has slight variations

BUY PHILIPS NORELCO MULTIGROOM 9000: 28-in-1 // 25-in-1 // 23-in-1

Consider Also: Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000

The Multigroom 7000 delivers nearly all the core benefits of the 9000 with only minor step-downs. You still get strong power, density-sensing performance, self-sharpening blades, waterproof design, and those excellent dial-adjusted guards for precise trimming. In practice, it performs almost identically for beard work. The tradeoffs are mostly in extras—slightly shorter runtime and fewer attachments, like the foil shaver on some models. But if you’re focused on beard and body grooming, the 7000 gives you flagship performance at a much better value.

Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000 Quick Stats:

  • Run Time: 5 hours
  • Charge Time: 2 hours
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • Cutting Lengths: 0.5–18 mm (fixed + adjustable guards)
  • Attachments: 14–23 pieces depending on kit (hair clipper, precision, foil shaver, T-blade, body, nose/ear, etc)
  • Each 7000 model has slight variations

Best Budget Trimmer: Andis inSIGHT

BUY ANDIS inSIGHT TRIMMER: Standalone // With inCRED Clipper

My low-cost, high-value budget pick doesn’t really feel like a compromise, especially where it counts.

What I like about Andis’ inSIHT trimmer is that it borrows the spirit of Andis’ barber-loved Slimline line, (they have the original Slimline Pro Li and the new Pro Li ii). The existence of those two professional grade tools makes this home-spun inSIGHT device a great value, since you get many of the same benefits but not at a professional-tool price. It’s a stepdown, yes, but still from a brand trusted by myself and the pros.

You still get that T-blade setup for crisp lineups, and Andis tends to do a really good job with reinforced guards, which matters more than people realize. That is what helps prevent unevenness and patchiness, and it is why this one punches above its price.

It does not try to be the most expansive do-everything system on the list—look, it’s a stepdown pick, in terms of customization and innovation—hence why it is also the least expensive. It is a dedicated beard trimmer with strong control and clean finishing ability, and that makes it an excellent choice for the money.

Best Beard Trimmer Innovation: Panasonic MultiShape

BUY PANASONIC MULTISHAPE: Basic Trimming + Body + Shave // All-in-One Kit // Detail Attachments

Great for travelers and lovers of design innovation, Panasonic’s Multishape is the trimmer (and clipper, and shaver,) that feels smartest and most exciting.

Its modular concept is genuinely useful instead of gimmicky. It uses one battery core (definitely get the Lithium battery option; please do not bother on the non-lithium option, if you want great longevity). Then, you just swap on the heads you need.

For beard trimming specifically, it gives you a lot of control, and it especially makes sense for someone who splits grooming time between trimming and shaving. I would not rank it as the best option for someone who also wants a truly rugged home haircutting device, since the clipper guards are not quite as confidence-inspiring as the best in class.

But for the guy who wants a sleek, flexible, travel-friendly system that can handle beard work, as well as wide-faced foil shaving, it is a very smart buy. (Skip the toothbrush add ons too… I would say, rely on this one for trimming first, shaving second, body grooming third, and for now, not much else.)

Best Value Beard Trimmer: Hatteker 5-in-1 Trimmer

BUY HATTEKER 5-IN-1 TRIMMER

Here is my surprise pick (in terms of my expectations vs. how something actually performed). I ordered this Hatteker trimmer for a Forbes Vetted review project I was working on a few years ago, and I really wrote off the potential of this tool. I had seen it all over Amazon, so I knew I needed to try it… and then I realized what makes it such a top seller—especially at an accessible price point.

Testing the Hatteker 5-in-1 Trimmer.

It overdelivers on range and customization, making it a great value comp for the Philips Norelco Multigrooms and the Braun Series 9. It has terrific endurance and versatility, which also added to my surprise.

I still would not put it in the same quality tier as the stronger Philips Norelco models, especially once you factor in long-term build and overall durability, but it is much better than a lot of people would assume from the price. If someone wants a low-cost all-in-one and understands they are making some concessions at the core level, this is one of the better ways to do that.

Best Beard Trimmer for Beginners: Philips Norelco OneBlade 360 Face + Body

BUY PHILIPS NORELCO ONEBLADE 360 FACE + BODY
BUY THE REPLACEMENT HEADS (VALUE 3-PACK)

The OneBlade 360 is the device I always recommend to the parents of teenage boys who want to buy their kid his first trimmer (and shaver, too). However, just because it’s great for beginners doesn’t also eliminate it from the veteran trimmer’s rotation: This is a terrific tool for minimalists who want both trimming and shaving functions from one simple, lightweight product. (And with that same shaving + trimming duality, it is also great at detailing along lineups, necklines, mustaches, etc.)

Showcasing the Philips Norelco OneBlade 360 Face + Body
Showcasing the Philips Norelco OneBlade 360 Face + Body

It is not the most customizable beard trimmer on this list, but that is kind of the point. The OneBlade is fast, uncomplicated, and especially strong at lineups and light maintenance. I know that it is the go-to touchup tool for many of my celebrity groomer pals, too—even celeb groomer Kristen Shaw (clients include Jonathan Bailey, Ben Affleck, Seth Rogen, David Corenswet, Brandon Sklenar) praised it in our SPIFFY podcast episode about what her career entails. (Full disclosure, PN also sponsored that first episode, but it was total coincidence in this instance that Kristen also praised the device. Also, I made this beard trimmer video long before they sponsored this episode.)

Here is a snapshot of what Shaw told me about the OneBlade: “Another thing I can’t live without from hair standpoint and facial standpoint is the OneBlade… I have been like the biggest fan… I’ve used it to completely shave a head before, for detailing down to the skin, it’s the cleanest shave… I feel like it’s so easy, so small, so compact… most of my guys have it in their travel bags… with the OneBlade in particular, I just feel like it’s very gentle and very effective… the OneBlade is just incredible, foolproof forever.”

The blade shape makes it easy to edge things up cleanly, and it works well for the guy who is not sculpting a huge beard but wants to maintain stubble, clean up a neckline, or keep a shorter style sharp without much thought. It is also one of the easiest devices to pack and use on the fly, which makes it especially appealing for minimalists.

The brand recommends replacing these razor heads every few months with consistent use. Truth be told, I think you can stretch them out a little longer; the brand will always err on the conservative side for customer satisfaction, but I have gotten 6-month mileage in some instances. (I suggest getting the 3-pack of replacement heads when you purchase the tool, just to have a good 1-2 years of backups at the ready, and at good value.)
