There’s a reason that Baxter of California recently launched both a deodorant and an exfoliating body wash with a cedar and oakmoss scent: It’s the same aroma as the beloved Exfoliating Body Bar, which smells insanely delicious. And I’m not embellishing here when I say this, but outside of actual fragrances, the Exfoliating Body Bar could be my favorite scented grooming product, bar none. In fact, why isn’t it a sprayable cologne yet, I have to wonder? (Baxter team, I hope you’ll consider it.)

If I was starting a brand today, or if I wanted to launch a fragrance for my brand, I would tell the product chemists “this is how high the bar is” (literally), and hold this under their faces as it relaxes their every muscle and nerve. When I worked at Birchbox way back when, the men’s editorial team would pass a bar of this around (it was stored in my desk drawer) and we would each take turns huffing it for a midday calm. It was just like we were back in 8th grade art class huffing glue, minus any brain cells dying, hahaha. This thing could cure your nicotine addiction, I swear.

Oh, and it’s a fantastic bar soap too. Yeah yeah, I should have led with that, but I can’t ignore the mossy+cedar aroma when it is that special. In the shower, this becomes the closest literal interpretation of a mind-clearing forest bath. With its finely buffing pumice and jojoba+olive seed powders, you get a terrifically smooth polish on your skin in the process. It doesn’t catch on body hair, or gather in the corners of your shower after use; those buffing granules are super fine and they go out in the wash.

The sodium palm kernelate base both nourishes and purifies skin, too, and you get a generous, hydrating lather that helps waft the scent around the shower as you scrub. Lastly, that thick brick gets fantastic mileage; one bar typically lasts us a couple weeks, with two guys each using it twice daily.
